Free weekly credit reports, by law
Americans have the privilege of accessing complimentary credit reports from each of the three major credit reporting agencies every week. These reports can be obtained by visiting www.annualcreditreport.com.
Before 2020, individuals were entitled to free credit reports once every 12 months. However, due to the financial disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, this allowance was revised to weekly. In October, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) confirmed that the shift to weekly reports would remain permanent.
In contrast to various credit-checking platforms that may impose charges or resort to fraudulent practices to acquire personal data, the FTC's website upholds integrity and does not engage in such practices. Further details are available in the FTC Consumer Alert.
